Gwynne Building
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Client: Withheld
This project reimagined a 1913 Beaux-Arts high-rise office structure as a boutique hotel for independent hospitality operator. The design concept drew from the history and design of the building and place, creating a unique brand experience in complete synthesis with time and place. As lead architect, PWWG collaborated with the development and hospitality team on visioning and concept development, led a complex national team of consultants through design documents, and spearheaded construction administration services for an extremely complex and demanding historic renovation.
Goals and Strategies for the Renovation:
- Guest Experience – a unique hospitality offering that combines history, architecture, and place into a holistic guest experience for both visitors and local guests.
- Urban Redevelopment – an investment in downtown and the belief in the connections that a city and a mixed-use 24/7 365 building can provide.
- Balance Old and New – a completely new interior space and building systems that work with the limits and opportunities of the existing building. A series of spaces that feel both fresh and that they have always been there.
- Subtle Coolness – a refined design that relies upon timeless design and intelligent arrangements of spaces to create an environment that is comfortably cool and elegant.
