St. Xavier Church Sacristy
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Client: St. Xavier Church
PWWG led design for the re-imagining of the Sacristies to serve both functional and aesthetic goals. The project was a part of a larger $4 million dollar renovation to restore historic stained glass windows, plaster ceilings, and building systems throughout the historic church.
The design inspiration came from the existing historic wood cabinetry. PWWG reapplied the language of cabinetry in creative and subtle ways to satisfy all current functional needs with a complimentary and timeless aesthetic. The Sacristies became large, beautifully detailed cabinets with “a place for everything and everything in its place.” Building systems were neatly concealed, life-safety upgrades were seamlessly integrated, and original finishes were restored. The space aspires to be contemplative in mood, full of wonder, and playful in detail. The design integrates seamlessly into the existing church architecture to create a final impression of having “always been there.”
